چکیده

15 Adult zebrafish are robustly social animals whereas larva is not. We designed an 16 assay to determine at what stage of development zebrafish begin to interact with and 17 prefer other fish. One week old zebrafish do not show significant social preference 18 whereas most 3 weeks old zebrafish strongly prefer to remain in a compartment where 19 they can view conspecifics. However, for some individuals, the presence of 20 conspecifics drives avoidance instead of attraction. Social preference is dependent on 21 vision and requires viewing fish of a similar age/size. In addition, over the same 1–3 22 weeks period larval zebrafish increasingly tend to coordinate their movements, a 23 simple form of social interaction. Finally, social preference and coupled interactions 24 are differentially modified by an NMDAR antagonist and acute exposure to ethanol, 25 both of which are known to alter social behavior in adult zebrafish. 26 27 . Impairment of social behaviour persists two years after embryonic alcohol exposure in zebrafish: A model of fetal alcohol spectrum disorders.

Zebrafish naturally form social groups called shoals. Previously, we have shown that submerging zebrafish eggs into low concentrations of alcohol (0.00, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75 and 1.00 vol/vol% external bath concentration) during development (24h post-fertilization) for two hours resulted in impaired shoaling response in seven month old young adult zebrafish. Here we investigate whether this embryoni...

Timing and plasticity of shoaling behaviour in the zebrafish, Danio rerio.

The zebrafish has become a major model system for biomedical research and is an emerging model for the study of behaviour. While adult zebrafish express a visually mediated shoaling preference, the onset of shoaling behaviour and of this preference is unknown. To assess the onset of these behaviours, we first manipulated the early social environment of larval zebrafish subjects, giving them thr...

Why Do They Want to Migrate from Rural Areas? A Psychological Perspective from Iran

While migration is a basic element of population dynamics in most societies, in Iran, rural-urban migration is a particular concern of both social scientists and policy makers. Rural-urban migration accounts for over half of the growth of most Iranian cities. On the other hand, this movement is often cited as having negative effects on rural area, including a shortage of supply of agricultural ...

The Role of the Strategic Intelligence and the Entrepreneurial Behavior in the Organizational Development

Internal forces such as managers with strategic intelligence and staff with entrepreneurial behaviour have forced organizations to constantly monitor their surrounding environment in order to create an awareness of opportunities and threats to allow them to survive in the competitive environment. Therefore, the main purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between strategic ...

Winners and Losers: social modulation of behaviour in zebrafish (Danio rerio)

In nature animals fight to acquire or defend vital resources such as food, shelter or access to mates. Aggressive behaviour is a quantifiable response to social stress, which is intrinsic to an individual and prevalent throughout the animal kingdom. In dyadic agonistic encounters, behaviour can be characterized by several specific behavioural patterns, usually dependent on the actions of the op...
